Laugh out loud at one wacky, improbable, uproarious disaster after another!

“I didn’t even know who I was anymore. My gaze wandered from the hooved animal leg lamp, to the way Marlene’s ketchup-red perm clashed with her green drink, to the disgusting rib bones on my own plate. It was all so stupidly surreal, so shameful—it defied the most outrageous Facebook post.”

Facing a cataclysmic identity crisis, pregnant Haley is battling for her very life—her life as an eco-chic, vegan Christian, that is. She hadn’t counted on being thrust into a war zone when she agreed to leave her East Coast life and go with her husband, Rick, to the Montana outback for the summer. And she certainly hadn’t counted on attending a ladies Bible study in a smoky, rancid saloon. Rather than run from it, though, Haley decides it is her God-given mission to subdue and educate the redneck forces that discount her superior vocabulary and sophisticated hairdo. With no help from Rick or his freaky Aunt Win, Haley dives headfirst into her mission only to find herself sucked irretrievably into a maelstrom of humiliating mishaps.

With tensions mushrooming as fast as her belly, will Haley see that she is actually living out the reality of the scripture, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged”? And just how many car explosions and massive wardrobe malfunctions will it take for her to realize that it is her own judgments of others that are boomer-anging back on her?

“...It’s hilarious! You should definitely all indulge in some witty Christian fiction.” —Cora Roberts, author, No Other Rock

“This book is hilarious, fast-paced, and well-written. I laughed out loud so often that my husband wanted me to read it to him. We’re both waiting for the sequel!”
—Valerie Thompson, M.Ed.

The Epic Undoing of Haley Ann Ewing edition by Willow Feller Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

What! This author doesn't even know me and yet managed to loop all of my faults and quirks into two of the main characters in the personification of Aunt Win and Haley. Everyone has or knows an Aunt Win, but seeing the positive side of this character revealed in such a humorous explosion of antics allows the relief from the anal condescension of the always superior Haley. I was hooked from the first Chapter of the must read book for anyone who has a sense of humor, as the vacationing couple and their elderly great aunt make their way across the US. Willow Feller has done the Christian world proud as she wittingly weaves a journey filled with exploding vehicles, food colored french fry or-devours served to the exquisite guest, to Haley's ever expanding, uncontrollable pregnant waistband. As soon as I put down this book, I picked up the sequel to find more adventures with Win. All I have to say How many more of these do you plan to write? Bring them on Willow! I'll read them all.
I won this book in a contest, but if I hadn't, it is one I would purchase. I loved this book from the first page, I laughed and I cried as I journeyed along with Haley Ann. I loved the writing and I loved the story. It makes such good points about judging and loving others and reinforces in a real-world way how little things we do can separate us from God. This book was so good that my son asked me about it several times while I was reading it, and it lead to some really good discussions between us. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to help improve any relationship in your life, if you are looking to laugh and if you are looking to just feel joy from the inside out.
Anyone who’s been a Christian for any significant amount of time understands how easy it is to fall into judgmentalism, the issue at the heart of Willow Feller’s quirky debut novel, The Epic Undoing of Haley Ann Ewing. Personally, I think it’s genius the way in which she lovingly skewers us all, exposing our nearly universal flaw—because, of course, our defenses are down when we are laughing, even at ourselves.

Feller weaves resounding themes throughout the story sacrifice, rebirth, forgiveness, and the biggies—acceptance and love. There’s also a touch of the supernatural, with shades of C.S. Lewis and Frank Peretti. I also appreciated her tackling of the dangers of social media and how it can affect our thought-lives and—yes, let’s face it—the way we judge ourselves and others.

I don’t think I’m giving too much away when I say that as I neared the novel’s end, I was really beginning to fear for Haley. With only a handful of pages remaining, she still hadn’t seen the light. But Feller pulls a convincing resolution out of the hat just in the nick, leaving me to now look forward to future off-beat shenanigans from this talented writer.
“God must have a plan in this.” Aunt Win

Set primarily against the vast expanse and beauty of Big Sky Country in the state of Montana, Willow Feller’s novel The Epic Undoing of Haley Ann Ewing, is not just a journey across the United States from the urban east coast to the heart of the northern plains, it is also a journey in the life, heart, and soul of Haley Ann Ewing, mother-to-be; school teacher; and a very self-assured person of faith.

Humorous and thought provoking, this work of fiction proves to be soul searching as well as entertaining as we follow Haley across the country with her husband Rick, on a summer work assignment, and his eccentric aunt Win. Leaving behind a church fellowship of people who are trendy and technologically in touch with one another, we see, as the journey progresses the “undoing” of Ewing as they progress further west.

And Ewing’s undoing is related both to the loss of her various things such as her smartphone, named ‘Hal’ by her husband, and the slow but sure loss of her identity as a self-assured believer in Jesus. The result is both a hysterical look at our dependence on the new modern conveniences of social media, green cars, and the like and the deeper issue of what constitutes an authentic faith and life in Christ.

Key to understanding the main themes of the novel (which I think are focused on the Ewing’s judgmental attitudes) is the tension between the post-modern Haley and the eccentric and rustic Aunt Win. The result is an honest look at the always present danger of a faith moving away from a heart warming and soul focused faith and toward an external focus on the “right” connections and fads.

I liked this book because it made me laugh, then it made me think, and then it made me take a look at my own blind spots. This is a well-written novel which is not preachy but offers the reader some serious reflection about faith, hope, and love

Note I was asked by the author to read and review this book. I agreed to do so without the promise of a positive review.
Starts out a little slow but soon has you laughing out loud. Love the characters so funny but realistic too. I now have three copies so I can share it with friends.
I wish I had the words that would do justice to this refreshing, funny and thought provoking book. I was reading this book while waiting the birth of my grandson, in all the excitement I left the book in the waiting room. I asked lost and found several times to no avail. I was in the middle of the book and could hardly wait to finish it. I immediately went on , ordered two more books. I'm excited for the sequel.
